The Federation of Canada-China Friendship Associations, or FCCFA, was founded in 1980 and registered with Corporations Canada in November 1982. It was preceded by a number of associations from coast to coast which promoted friendship with the People's Republic of China. There are five Federation branches at present, which are full-fledged members of the Federation: in Victoria, Calgary, Winnipeg, Toronto, and Ottawa serving the National Capital Region.

Its aims as recorded in the Federation's constitution are:
  1. To promote friendship between the people of Canada and China by fostering mutual understanding and appreciation of each other's society, their historical development and their functioning social and economic institutions.
  2. To promote cultural, educational, scientific, athletic and other exchanges between the Canadian and Chinese people.
FCCFA maintains friendly links with the Chinese People's Association for Friendship With Foreign Countries (CPAFFC) in Beijing and with other provincially-based friendship associations in China.
