In 1964, when New China was just 15 years old, a group of people in Vancouver organized to build a "Bridge of Friendship" between the Canadian and Chinese people. When the Victoria chapter was formed the following year (1965), China had not yet been recognized by the Canadian Government or the United Nations. Those who first gathered to form the local association were very politically motivated, and one of their chief objectives was to obtain recognition for China. To this end members sent letters to their Members of Parliament and the UN urging recognition. Their persistence paid off and in 1970 China was officially recognized by Canada and the UN.

Victoria Canada China Friendship Association is a member of the Federation of the Canada-China Friendship Association. Through the National Association, we maintain a liaison with the China Pacific Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries in Beijing, and Provincial and Municipal friendship associations throughout China
