April 29, 2011; the Chinese Embassy hosted a buffet reception (By Invitation) for all CCFS-Ottawa members and VIP guests in recognition of the 35th anniversary of the founding of CCFS-Ottawa. Ambassador Zhang Junsai gave an informative speech about China's Twelfth Five-Year Plan.

October 15, 2009 (Thursday), 7:30p.m. Room 156, Library & Archives, 395 Wellington, Ottawa: Professor Christian Constantin, Graduate School of International and Public Affairs, University of Ottawa, will give an Illustrated Talk on China’s Energy Policy and Global Climate Change .
September 17 (Thursday), 7:30p.m.: Mr. Loic Gouadec will be giving a talk and demonstration on “Tai Ji Chuan”. Tai Ji (Tai Chi) is a series of complex, slow-motion movements, each named and designed (for example, The White Crane Spreads its Wings) to ensure effective circulation of the Qi, or intrinsic energy of the universe, through the mind and body. It derives partly from the Shaolin Temple martial arts of China and partly from Daoism. Mr. Gouadec, who lives in Ottawa is an expert in the art.

Jean-François Leclerc, Director, Centre d’Histoire de Montréal, on Montrealizing Bethune: The genesis of the exhibition ‘ The Adventures of the Unpredictable Doctor Bethune’ at the Centre d`Histoire de Montréal. January 15, 2009 at 7:30 p.m. Illustrated talk by Professor Charles Burton of Brock University on the reforms of Deng Xiaoping (a CCFS event). One of the founding fathers of the New China, Deng Xiaoping is the Chief Architect of China’s Opening Up and Reform Policies, the socialist cause with Chinese characteristics that produced China’s economic miracle. The year 2008 marks the 30th anniversary of the start of the Reform Movement. Professor Burton is a well-known sinologist who has served in the Canadian Embassy in Beijing. Friday, January 16, 8:00 p.m. Spring Festival Gala of Chinese Music and Dance, 2009 actively promoted by CCFS Ottawa. National Arts Centre (presented by the China Arts Association). A visual and musical masterpiece featuring a wide range of spectacular performances by 50 leading artists and entertainers from China. Traditional Chinese instruments will also be showcased individually and with the Ottawa Symphony Orchestra to provide a truly unique ‘East-meets-West’ musical experience.

November 26 (Wednesday), Annual General Meeting, Room 156, Library & Archives Canada, 395 Wellington St. Professor Scott Simon, Department of Sociology and Anthropology, University of Ottawa will give an illustrated presentation on Ethnic Minorities in Greater China. This will be preceded by a business meeting beginning at 7p.m. All are welcome; admission is free with a $5 charge for non-members; tea and light refreshments will be served.
October 16 (Thurs), 7:30p.m. Invitation to a Film Evening “Hello, Xiaoping”, A TV documentary co-produced by China Central Television, 95 minutes, in English. September 10 (Wednesday) 6:30p.m. a dinner in honour of Mr. Qing Boming and Ms. Ye Zi of the Chinese People's Association for Friendship With Foreign Countries, on their visit to Ottawa, September 9-10, at the Palais Imperial Restaurant on Dalhousie at Clarence. September 25, 7:30 p.m. Illustrated talk by Dr. Marilyn Light on Chinese orchids and other plants. Dr. Light is a microbiologist who has researched and written and taught about orchids at the University of Ottawa, in speaking tours, and earlier this year was invited to China to talk about her study of Chinese Cymbidium orchids. Elmwood School, Rockcliffe Park; talk followed by light refreshments.
June 28, a talk on "Canada's development co-operation with China: defining our mutural interests" by Xavier Furtado, Assistant Director (Policy and Planning) of the China & Northeast Asia Division, CIDA, at Library & Archives Canada, Room 156 (over 50 persons attended).
February 11: Year of the Pig New Year's Banquet at Mandarin Ogilvie attended by 160 members and guests; the happy gathering heard remarks by Ambassador Lu Shumin, Senator Mac Harb, City of Gatineau Councillor Juan da Silva of the City of Gatineau, and Mayor of Ottawa representative Mr. David Gibbins; two gu-zheng players and CCFS musical talents Dominic D'Arcy and Georges Sapounidis provided musical entertainment; doorprizes were donated by the Chinese Embassy, Canada Post Corporation, Mandarin Ogilvie, Shanghai Restaurant, and CCFS members.

January 11: an illustrated talk by Dr. Sen Wang, economist with the Privy Council Office (on secondment from Natural Resources Canada, Victoria), on China's Economic Growth and Challenges, at Library & Archives Canada

November 23: The AGM members business meeting elected a new executive committee. Mr. Martin Charron of Foreign Affairs Canada afterwards spoke on new directions in Canada's economic and commercial relations with China; held at Library & Archives Canada.

October 19: A talk by Ann Chudleigh on the Chinese Scholar Gardens of Suzhou at Library & Archives Canada; the authoritative talk about over 20 gardens in Suzhou and other Jiangsu cities visited by the speaker during 2005 and 2006 were accompanied by beautiful slides
September 21: A talk and video presentation by Harry Elton Memorial Fund Bursary winners Neuczki Mathurin and Nick Wang about their August Summer Camp experience hosted by the Shanghai People's Friendship Association; followed by a report from Lolan Merklinger about the Federation delegation's September visit to China, and doorprizes (at the Richelieu-Vanier Centre)
June 28: An illustrated talk by Museum of Nature paleontologist Dr. Xiao-chun Wu (at Library & Archives Canada) on collaboration on dinosaur study between Canada and China; following the talk interested members were able to take home their selection among a large number of Chinese album leaf prints, generously donated by Mrs. Jean Small.
May 15: A special viewing of Ming-Qing dynasty paintings from the National Gallery of Canada's Chinese collection made possible under the NGC's Outreach program to CCFS members only; expert commentary by Carleton University Asian art history professor Dr. Ming Tiampo
April 23: A tea reception organized by Evelyn Wu Amberg for veteran CCFS-Ottawa members
April 5: Julia Bentley of Foreign Affairs Canada gave a talk at Library & Archives Canada on Chinese civil society: how are Chinese NGOs contributing to Society, and what role can international support play?
March 23: The City of Ottawa's Dashan (Mark Rowswell) Gala at Ben Franklin Place, was well attended by CCFS-Ottawa members; VP Jeffrey de Fourestier acted as marketing director for the event organizing committee; proceeds benefited Chinese seniors at The Glebe Centre's Senior Citizens Home.
February 5: Year of the Dog New Year Banquet at the Mandarin Ogilvie combined with a 30th anniversary celebration of the chapter's founding (206 persons attending); congratulatory remarks by Ambassador Lu Shumin, the first two chapter presidents Peter Larson & Maija Kagis, and by senior municipal officials from Ottawa and Gatineau. Generous door prizes were donated by the Chinese Embassy, Canada Post Corporation, and CCFS members.
2005
November 24: AGM meeting at Library and Archives Canada; the business meeting was followed by a PRC film "Chairman Mao and Snow', with commentary by CCFS member Gilliane Lapointe who acted in the film
November 3: talk by ceramics expert Ron Whate about Chinese export porcelain in Canada, given at St. Luke Lutheran Church
August 25: a film evening at St. Luke Lutheran Church, featuring two documentary films, "Two-Gun Cohen" about soldier-adventurer Morris Cohen who became Dr. Sun Yatsen's bodyguard and "The Return of the Ospreys" about the clean-up of Erhai Lake in Yunnan; the films were introduced by CCFS members Gilliane Lapointe and Mervin Fingas respectively.
June 23: presentation by Ottawa delegates on in the FCCFA delegation on the trip to China in May/June at the invitation of the Jiangsu People's Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries; Michael Copeland, Lolan Merklinger, Georges and Josette Samne, Mary Lee spoke;
May 19 talk by former diplomat Robert Edmonds about the Canada-China recognition negotiations in Stockholm between 1968 and 70; at the Richelieu-Vanier Centre
March 17: A Special General Meeting at Library & Archives Canada resulting in the election of a new executive committee
