The evening will feature a sumptuous Chinese banquet, door prizes, and entertainment. Our Chinese New Year's Banquet on Feb. 12 is sold out. For those who have mailed in reservations with payment, please ensure that you have received a confirmation email from us to validate your reservation. February 13, 2011, CCFS's Year- of-the- Rabbit New Year banquet at the Mandarin Ogilvie Restaurant was a resounding success with close to 200 attendees, with remarks by Chinese ambassador Zhang Junsai, Mayor Jim Watson, and former Canadian ambassador to China Robert Wright. The musical entertainment and doorprizes were well received. Photos below will be followed by others later.

During November 2010 Gary Evans (adjunct professor, Univ. of Ottawa) lectured at several Chinese universities on communication studies and filmography. He also wrote an article titled Filmography of Canadian-Made Images About China and the Chinese. CCFS-Ottawa is pleased to have permission to post the on-line version of Gary Evans' article. CCFS-Ottawa was well represented at the 40th Anniversary Conference on Canada China Relations, and the Canada-China Cultural Dialogue Conference, both at the Fairmont Chateau Laurier in Ottawa, October 13-14, 2010. President Lorraine Farkas and three other members represented the chapter on a 12-member Federation delegation visiting China Sept. 7-17,2010, at the invitation of the Chinese People's Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries (CPAFFC). Vice-president Gilliane Lapointe gave a speech about the state of Canada China sister cities linkages at an international conference organized by the CPAFFC in Shanghai. CCFS-Ottawa's former president Lolan Merklinger led a 4-member Federation delegation visiting Shanghai and Jiangsu Sept. 12-21, 2010, on the invitation of the Shanghai People's Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries, and the Jiangsu People's Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries ; a report and photos will follow in the near future.
CCFS President Meets President Hu Jintao
CCFS President, Lorraine Farkas, had the pleasure of meeting President Hu Jintao at a state luncheon of the Governor General in honour of the Chinese President on June 24, 2010. She was among about 65 other guests, including university presidents, politicians, professors, heads of various not-for-profit organizations and business people. A surprising number of attendees had just returned or who were going to China in the near future, including the Governor General herself and Mr. Allan Rock, University of Ottawa President. The CCFS-Ottawa is indeed pleased to have been invited to be part of this important event.

August 29, 2009 Farewell Reception to Counselor Zhao Haisheng and his wife Ms. Lu Yongjiu and Welcome to Counselor Lin Difu and his wife Ms. Zhang Haiyun. , This reception was attended by Chinese Embassy guests and a number of CCFS-Ottawa executive committee members and guests and took place at the home of Executive member Dr. Wang Yong-Zhi and his wife Dr. Joanne Xiong.

Ottawa chapter president Lolan Merklinger (and then FCCFA president) spoke at the reception on behalf of FCCFA. Ottawa chapter VP Gilliane Lapointe also attended.
His Excellency Lan Lijun has assumed his post as the new Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the People's Republic of China to Canada. Ambassador Lan and his wife Madame Gu Langlin arrived in Ottawa in early June.
Ambassador Lan was Deputy Director-General of the Department of North American and Oceanian Affairs, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Beijing 1996 – 2000; Consul General with Ambassadorial rank at the Consulate General in Los Angeles; and Minister at the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in Washington, D.C., 2002 - 05. From 2005 to 2008, he was China’s Ambassador to the Republic of Indonesia.
Mr. Lan Lijun was born in Jiangsu Province, China, on December 5, 1952. He graduated from Beijing Foreign Languages Institute in 1974 with a B.A. degree in English Literature and continued his postgraduate study at Queen’s University and McGill University in Canada from 1974 to 1976, then at the Kennedy School of Government, Harvard University, where he received a Masters degree in Public Administration in 1999.
Mr. Lan Lijun is married with a daughter.

Farewell to Ambassador Lu Shumin: Ambassador Lu and his gracious wife Madame Gao Shuqin left Ottawa on May 10 after their three-year tenure in the nation's capital. Ambassador Lu is taking up his new post as Commissioner to Macao with vice-ministerial rank under the Chinese Foreign Ministry.
